Executive summary
Two-year program
March 2024 – present
Community Bank, N.A. competes across dozens of NY, PA, VT, and MA markets. Most high-intent local banking terms started unranked — and, like any bank, its public content is bound by compliance review
We built local landing pages for each market and service, laid a clean technical and schema foundation, produced compliant content, and expanded the keyword program in waves across 2024, 2025, and 2026.
The current keyword set holds 15 #1s and 41 of 50 on page one; the 2025 set improved 86.8% over baseline; and the site went from zero AI visibility to 132 citations across seven engines, plus 484 AI Overview query appearances.
01 / About & challenge
ABOUT THE CLIENT
Community Bank, N.A. serves customers across New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Massachusetts — a broad footprint spanning metros from Buffalo and Rochester to Albany, Syracuse, and Binghamton, into Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, and across state lines into Vermont and Massachusetts.
For a bank this size, local discovery in every market is a growth engine — but the usual lever, a high volume of optimized content, is slowed by the compliance review that governs everything a bank publishes.

THE CHALLENGE
High-intent local terms — “line of credit [county]”, “HELOC [county]”, “[county] business bank” — started unranked, in market after market. Every metro is its own local search race, and content-led SEO was constrained by compliance

Launch set · 2024
Audit read: With most local terms unranked and content-led SEO constrained by compliance, growth had to come from local landing pages, a clean technical and schema foundation, and steady compliant content — the same signals that would later make CBNA legible to AI answer engines.
02 / Strategy & approach
Built and optimized a dedicated page for each service in each market, so every “service + place” query had a genuinely relevant local page instead of a thin template
Fixed technical health and implemented structured data so search engines — and, later, AI engines — could read the bank’s locations, services, and entity signals clearly
Produced useful, on-brand service and product content within the bank’s compliance guardrails — enough to support rankings without creating regulatory risk.
Expanded the target set over two years — the 2024 launch set, the 2025 set, and the 2026 set — compounding coverage across markets and services.
The same structured-data and content signals were tuned so CBNA would surface in AI-generated answers, not just blue links — and tracked across every major AI engine.

WHAT CHANGED
At the start, CBNA had zero AI visibility. Today the site is cited 132 times across seven AI engines and appears in 484 Google AI Overview queries across 240 pages — the payoff of a clean structured-data foundation and genuinely useful local content, which is exactly what AI answer engines read when they choose a source to cite.
